Are there any holidays where the packaging and the food aren’t amazing? Go ahead, find one. We’ll wait. Meanwhile, since Halloween and Thanksgiving are approaching, let’s check out one of the season’s most popular offerings, and what it means for our favourite evergreen topic. That’s right, we’re talking pumpkin spice and we’re checking out 5 delicious examples of pumpkin spice packaging. You can insert your own joke about being basic here.

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte

Pumpkin Spice Packaging: Starbucks

This is the OG PSL. The one that arguably started the now-yearly craze for pumpkin spice. And we admit, we sometimes fall into its trap, too—it’s delicious and we all know it, right?

Since debuting in 2003, Starbucks has sold more than 424 million Pumpkin Spice Lattes, making it their top-selling seasonal beverage of all time. It makes sense that they’d capitalize on this by introducing it in stores as a quick, grab-n-go indulgence. There are plenty of bottle styles and PSL offerings (mix your own, sold chilled, mixed with caramel—the list goes on), but all their pumpkin spice packaging carries their signature Starbucks logo and the eye-catching creamy burnt orange colouring. Man, that’s delicious. Inside and out!

Smashmallow Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Spice Packaging: Smashmallow

So, what’s not to love when it comes to this pumpkin spice packaging? It’s square (!) marshmallows, in two layers (mimicking pumpkin pie and whipped cream topping), inside heat-sealed stand up pouches. This makes us giddy for packaging and hungry for sugar all at the same time.

The mixture of imagery and colours of fall, October and Thanksgiving make this pumpkin spice packaging quite the winner in our books. We bet ripping open this bag must unleash just the best smell ever. It’s time to buy some.

Pumpkin Spice Cheerios

Pumpkin Spice Packaging: Cheerios

We all knew this was coming, and—let’s be honest—we’re all glad it’s here, aren’t we? Cheerios on their own are absolutely inhalable. Combined with the sweet and savory mix of pumpkin spice, they’re now totally irresistible. You don’t even need milk!

The pumpkin spice packaging itself isn’t new or unexpected, but it hits all the right notes. You know it’s Cheerios and you know it’s got pumpkin spice in it. And really, that’s all that’s needed to make it fly off the shelves, isn’t it?

Pumpkin Pie Kit Kat

Pumpkin Spice Packaging: Kit Kat

Well now, this is interesting. Much like Cheerios, adding pumpkin spice to Kit Kat is both delicious and dangerous for the waistline. Have a break, have several pumpkin spice Kit Kats.

The pumpkin spice packaging is effective. Simply changing from the iconic red wrapper is enough to make Kit Kat lovers stop and take notice. Plus, that kitty in the chef’s hat is absolutely adorable and makes us wonder just how good of a baker he (or she) is.

And the updates don’t stop there. The chocolate of the Kit Kat itself is tinted a lovely brown-orange. It definitely ups the pumpkin-y flavour and feel of the candy bar.

Pumpkin Spice Spam

Pumpkin Spice Packaging: Spam

Okay, we had to put this on the list. There are plenty of things that would absolutely go well with pumpkin spice mix, but we never thought Spam would be one of them. And yet, here we are. And it was massively popular, too!

Spam Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice sold out in Walmart USA stores in just 7 hours when it was first introduced. Even now it’s one of the most hotly anticipated debuts of the Thanksgiving season. And while it’s not the most stunning of pumpkin spice packaging examples on this list, it’s certainly one of the most memorable. Have you tried it? Let us know what you think.

It’s always a lot of fun to showcase interesting packaging, since the ideas and products behind them are usually so cool and iconic. But we must admit, all this pumpkin spice packaging is certainly making our stomachs rumble. Could anyone else do with a PSL, too?
