Pantone® and the Pantone Color Institute™ have named their Color of the Year for 2020: PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue. It’s described as “an enduring blue, instilling calm, confidence and connection.” It also “highlights our collective desire for a dependable and stable foundation,” one we can build on as we cross the threshold into a new decade and era of human existence.

“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on.”

Starting in 2000 and now in its 21st year, Pantone’s Color of the Year is chosen to reflect global culture and trends in art, entertainment, fashion, technology and more. It influences product development, packaging design, industrial design and purchasing decisions made by businesses and consumers throughout the ensuing year.

“Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation,” Leatrice adds. “A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”

Pantone and its Pantone Matching System is very well known to designers and artists the world over. It’s a standardized system of colour reproduction that’s been adopted by businesses across countless industries. It ensures that no matter how many designers and other professionals (such as printers or manufacturers) get involved in a specific project, the final product will always match the original design’s colour choice.
